The Project Proponent is Wildlands Carbon LLC. Greenline Climate (a subsidiary of Spatial Informatics Group (SIG)) is the Project Manager/Developer and Northeast Wilderness Trust the Project Sponsor. Inlandsis Fund provided upfront capital to support the launch of the program and will be providing ongoing funding for carbon development work and other program costs.
The project protects forests that otherwise, under existing state and regional timber harvest guidelines and regulations, are vulnerable to unsustainable harvesting. By committing to maintain forest CO2 stocks above similarly owned timberlands in the region, the project will provide significant climate benefits through carbon sequestration. It will also ensure the long-term continuance of all environmental benefits provided by the conservation of the forestland.
Forever-wild forests include multiple co-benefits for natural communities and humans (in addition to carbon storage): • forever-wild forests provide resiliency to a changing climate; • secure wildlife corridors and habitat for an astounding array of biodiversity; • inhibit the spread of many invasive species; • improve watershed health for both humans and threatened aquatic species.
