Project Description

In Finland, Soilfood addresses the challenge of pulp and paper mill wastes, with more than 90% traditionally incinerated, releasing CO2. Soilfood partners with these mills to convert organic waste into natural fertilizers and soil treatments for farmers, reducing environmental impact.

Following Puro.earth's Soil Amendment methodology, Soilfood's products enhance soil carbon storage, acting as inert, durable carbon compounds that lock away carbon for at least 20 years. This not only benefits soil health but also contributes to climate resilience in agriculture, improving farm yields by over 1%.

Moreover, Soilfood's products significantly reduce N2O emissions in soils by a factor of 50x compared to typical chemical fertilizers used in Finland, addressing environmental concerns associated with conventional practices.

The projects undergo regular reviews by independent assessors for lifecycle analysis and product environmental declarations, ensuring adherence to environmental standards. Co-benefits generated from using Soilfood's fibers are equitably shared with participating pulp and paper mills and farmers, fostering a sustainable and collaborative approach.
