Technical details

Why is this important?

The building sector generates 23% of GHG emissions in France, making it a major source of emissions. The embodied phase of a building's life cycle, which can account for 15-40% of its total GHG emissions over a lifespan of 50-60 years, is a significant contributor. Construction waste also accounts for 80% of total waste production in France. Reuse of construction materials represents less than 1% of the market due to the complexity and cost of circular systems.

Why does this project need financial support?

Setting up a new reconditioning chain for construction materials poses significant challenges in sourcing, process implementation, and obtaining necessary authorizations. Mobius Réemploi has demonstrated efficiency in reconditioning but now needs to scale up to establish the profitability of the process. The alternative remains more expensive than new products due to the manual tasks involved, such as removal, packaging, transportation, repackaging, lab testing, and sourcing, all of which are performed in Europe with higher labor costs compared to industries producing new products. The project aims to double capacity within five years thanks to carbon credits.
