Avoided Deforestation

Technical details

The goal of this project, developed in 18 Afrodescendant communities in the Department of Nariño, is to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation within a biodiversity-rich area of 371.749 hectares, and to undertake conservation activities leading to an improvement in carbon reservoirs. The project not only addresses a critical environmental concern (deforestation/forest degradation) but also major social, economical and cultural challenges faced by communities of this region, through community empowerment, capacity building and raising awareness on the importance of healthy forests and ecosystems for the livelihoods of current and future generations.
