Biochar

Technical details

In the first year, the project will start with 1 Kon-Tiki kiln, eventually scaling up to 22 kilns over five years. Carbon Dioxide Removal Credits (CDRCs) will be generated, starting at 510 per annum and increasing to 3,786 per annum.

Planboo Eco AB and TACHIBANA & CO., LTD. collaborate on this project. Planboo acts as the carbon project developer, technology provider, and carbon credit broker, while TACHIBANA & CO., LTD. serves as the C-Sink Manager and oversees biochar production. Biochar will be supplied to cocoa farmers for application on their farmland.

The project is committed to producing over 510 CDRCs in the first year and aims to sequester a minimum of 510 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. It also seeks to improve soil fertility, agricultural productivity, and livelihoods while raising awareness about biochar's benefits and its role in carbon removal.

By efficiently managing cocoa husk waste and promoting sustainable agriculture, this biochar project contributes to Ghana's environmental sustainability and economic development. It demonstrates the potential of biochar production and application to address environmental challenges while creating a more sustainable agricultural industry.

Through collaboration and innovative technology, this project aims to make a significant impact on carbon removal, soil health, and agricultural sustainability in Ghana.
