Avoided Deforestation
Cikel Project - The first Avoided Planned Deforestation (APD) project in Brazil, protecting 27,000 hectares of native forest in Pará. Since 2007, it has prevented 372,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
Unique Commitment - Cikel chose to preserve the forest through REDD+ despite having legal authorization to deforest 20% of its area for cattle farming, demonstrating long-term sustainability.
Location and Impact - Located in Paragominas, a region heavily affected by deforestation where 70% of the original forest is gone. The project supports 300 people across four communities and protects 518 species, including endangered ones.
Key Initiatives:
Environmental Monitoring: Continuous 24/7 monitoring with our CarbonEye satellite, developed in partnership with Google, providing daily fire alerts.
Fire Brigade Training: Essential in a region where fire risk is high, empowering locals to prevent and combat fires effectively.
Transportation Routes Maintenance: Improving mobility and access to essential services.
Health and Disease Prevention: Running awareness campaigns to improve health conditions.
Economic Diversification: Training in sustainable forest management for income diversification.
Investing in the Cikel Project means reducing carbon emissions and supporting sustainable development and biodiversity conservation in the Amazon. It is a prime choice for impactful carbon credits.
