Project Description:

The Bukaleba Forest Project (BFP), managed by Busoga Forestry Company (BFC), a subsidiary of Green Resources AS, stands as a model for sustainable forest management and community development in Uganda. Upholding the highest corporate, social, and environmental standards with FSC and ISO certifications, BFC focuses on establishing and sustaining forest plantations for high-quality wood products.

In a region prone to deforestation due to subsistence agriculture, fuel wood collection, and grazing, BFP acts as a bulwark against degradation. The project mitigates these threats through carbon sequestration efforts, forest planting, and conservation practices. A significant portion of the landscape, constituting natural forests, riparian habitats, rivers, and wetlands, is designated as conservation areas.

The project extends its benefits to 17 villages, encompassing over 5,000 households, providing vital employment opportunities to more than 600 individuals. By promoting afforestation, BFP not only aids in environmental conservation, including soil and water protection but also enhances biodiversity through the management of indigenous flora and fauna.

Socioeconomic development is integral to BFP's mission. The project actively engages local communities in afforestation activities, provides employment, and supports various development initiatives through the sale of carbon credits. Community woodlots are established on community-owned land, ensuring a sustainable supply of fuel and timber.

Aligned with Uganda's Vision 2040, Climate Change Policy, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), BFP undergoes rigorous monitoring, including third-party environmental and social impact assessments. BFC's commitment to national policies and its contribution to the forestry sector align with Uganda's strategic objectives, fostering economic growth and environmental stewardship.
