This voluntary carbon credit is a recognized mechanism which enables stakeholders to take meaningful action through GHG emission reduction projects that reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

This is achieved through the recovery and reclamation process ensuring the refrigerants have been reclaimed to AHRI standards. Anything that is reclaimed is not made. This prevention of virgin gas production displaces the emissions associated with the manufacturing process and shipment.

According to the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report, the specific types of HFCs covered by this protocol have Global Warming Potential (GWP) values 3,170 and 3,350 times that of CO2.
